One, President’s Day, celebrates the country’s presidents and particularly honors George Washington, our first President, and celebrates his birthday on February 22nd. The other is Ash wednesday, a day of fasting for Christians and the beginning of Lent.

Do You Know Why You Have Wrist and/or Hand Pain?

The wrist and hand have a lot of importance. Hand an wrist pain can make it very difficult to function and complete our daily tasks. Physical Therapy for hand and wrist pain are proven strategies to alleviate the pain and injury of the wrist and hand.

Helpful Stretches For Wrist and Hand Pain

Here are a few stretches that you can do at home to alleviate wrist and hand pain.

  1. Finger Flexion/Extension
    1. First, extend the fingers open as wide as possible. Hold for 5 seconds. Then make a fist as tight as possible and hold for five seconds again. Repeat for 10 repetitions. This exercise improves the mobility and functionality of a stiff hand.

2. Wrist Flexor Stretch

 

1. With your arm resting on a table, your hand hanging off of the table, and your elbow straight, gently grab the injured hand and pull the wrist backwards until you feel a slight stretch. Hold this position for 5 seconds and then rest. Do for 10 repetitions.

3. Supination/Pronation

1. Resting your arm in front of you and your palm facing upwards, slowly rotate the palm until it faces downwards and until a stretch is felt. Hold for 5 seconds and then rotate the palm until it faces upwards again and you feel the stretch. Again hold for 5 seconds and repeat for 10 repetitions.
