Sam Simon passed away yesterday. He was one of the creative founder's of the extremely popular show "The Simpsons". He died of colorectal cancer. What is important to note is that "The Simpsons" didn't just entertain people but influenced television in a historic way, changing the fabric of television and greatly influencing shows like "South Park" and "Family Guy".

The movie Whiplash was nominated for 5 Oscars including “Best Picture” and J.K. Simmons won the oscar for “Best Supporting Actor”. In the movie, he plays an abusive conductor for a Jazz Band at the top music school in the country and is constantly cursing out and humiliating his students, particularly the film’s leading star, Miles Teller, who plays a dedicated drummer.

One, President’s Day, celebrates the country’s presidents and particularly honors George Washington, our first President, and celebrates his birthday on February 22nd. The other is Ash wednesday, a day of fasting for Christians and the beginning of Lent.

Congratulations to the Grammy winner’s this week, particularly Sam Smith for winning best song with “Stay With Me” and Beck for winning Best Album. Kirsten Wiig did her hilarious impression of Sia during a performance of “Chandelier”. All around it was a great show and the winners were much deserved.
