October 29th was National Cat Day and so I have to begin this blog post by thanking all of the lovable cats in the world that make our lives better. Whether you have a cat as a pet or do not, cats provide valuable love to their owners, making each day a little bit better.
Cats are known to always land on their feet. They are great leapers. They can leap from the floor to the counter with just one big hop. For a cat, there is perhaps no other body part as important as their legs.
At Cross Bay Physical, we help patients live healthier lives by making sure their legs are strong and agile. We focus on correcting any injuries or pain that may occur in their knees, feet, or hips. Even arthritis can be helped with Physical Therapy.
What is Leg Pain?
Well you certainly know it when you have it! Leg pain can refer to a variety of leg, knee, ankle and foot conditions affecting one’s ability to go about normal activity. It can range from a dull ache to an intense stabbing sensation. Physical Therapy has been proven to help with many leg problems, easing pain and increasing a person's mobility.
Here is a list of some of the most common causes of leg pain that we treat at Cross Bay Physical Therapy:
1. Sprains and Strains
These occur as injuries to the body and can often result after a physical activity. A sprain in the hip, knee, ankle or foot can range from minor to severe. Most cases do not require medical attention but physical therapy is important in helping the strain or sprain recover without long term effects.
2. Sciatica
Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve is irritated, causing severe pain and numbness in the leg.
3. Shin Splints
Shin splints is a term used to describe pain you might be feeling along the shinbone. Shin splints cause pain in the front of your shins and is aggravated by uphill walking or running. Your doctor may refer to this condition as medial tibial stress syndrome.
4. Arthritis
Arthritis is an extremely common condition and one of the leading causes of disability in the U.S. When the cartilage between one’s joints' wears out, the bones rub together causing pain and inflammation. Various ways to help the condition of arthritis include oral or topical anti-inflammatory medication and Physical Therapy treatments to reduce arthritis.
